Optimum Billboards | Campaign case study
When two nations celebrate, the streets tell the story. Here is how we turned a Lagos wall into a bilingual tribute to three national milestones.
The finished large-format wall billboard in Lagos, installed by Optimum Billboards in 2026.
Billboard advertising in Lagos is more than a way to promote products and services. It is also a powerful medium for celebrating culture, marking national milestones and strengthening international relationships.
At Optimum Billboards, we executed an outdoor advertising campaign in Lagos for our Chinese clients, celebrating Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary, the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, and 55 years of diplomatic relations between Nigeria and China.
The result is a striking red wall billboard featuring the Nigerian flag, commemorative typography and bilingual English and Chinese messaging, placed in a shared public space where everyday passers-by can see it.

The challenge: three milestones, one billboard
The billboard had to speak to audiences from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Instead of treating each anniversary as a separate message, we brought them together in one coordinated design.
- The 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (1949–2026)
- Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary (1960–2026)
- The 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria (1971–2026)
The creative challenge was fitting bilingual text, national symbolism and several commemorative dates onto one surface while keeping the visual impact that good large-format billboard advertising demands.
Our solution: a high-impact wall billboard in Lagos
Large-format wall billboard advertising
We used a long, horizontal billboard installed along an outdoor wall. The extended layout gave us room for several anniversary messages, prominent national imagery and supporting illustrations. It shows how wall billboard advertising can turn an existing outdoor space into a substantial communication platform.
A bold, culturally relevant design
The creative pairs a predominantly red background with gold lettering, the Nigerian flag and a large commemorative number 66. English and Chinese text let the message reach both audiences, and the national colours and anniversary dates make the subject clear at a glance. A silhouette and an illustrated Lagos bridge landmark add local character.
Bringing the message into public life
We chose outdoor advertising in Lagos to carry these messages beyond digital screens. A public-facing display is seen by people going about their day, which connects an institutional message with everyday life.
The execution: from campaign message to street-level display
Optimum Billboards handled the physical installation of the commemorative creative on a large wall billboard in Lagos. The bilingual anniversary messages sit on one side, balanced by the prominent Nigerian independence artwork on the other.
A black perimeter frame defines the display area and helps the expansive red creative stand out against its surroundings. The finished billboard shows how flexible outdoor advertising is for cultural celebrations, institutional communication and international partnership campaigns.
Campaign outcome
One publicly displayed billboard now celebrates all three anniversaries in a single installation, and it demonstrates how large-format outdoor advertising can carry detailed commemorative messages while keeping a recognisable visual theme.
